I ordered this light because I thought it would really light up our family room, and because I love it's clean, contemporary--but still warm--look. It was fairly difficult to install, but well worth it because it looks great. As far as really "lighting up the room"... well, it has a warm lamp shade that really diffuses the light--it gives a nice, warm light that is not as bright as I had hoped (hence the 4 stars vs. 5). It does, however, give a nice warm glow to our family room and I am pleased with how it turned out.
